Steel has been used extensively in this alteration and addition on a steep difficult site as exposed columns and beams. In particular, the judges were impressed by the way that the builder has used steel to tie together and support the stone sub-floor area of this unstable 1930's house by cutting into the stone corners and securing them with galvanised steel angles.
