| Designed by the client and PJP together for a grown up family in a 1970 split level full brick home this project involved completely renovating and rebuilding the kitchen, living area, verandah with a new home office above and a wine cellar below.
The new extension contrasts with the existing brick and tile residence. Exposed structural steel, glass, aluminium create a contemporary lightweight enclosure that opens out to the extensive north facing views of the Port Hacking.
The open plan kitchen/living area, with polished concrete island bench and polyurethane pivot doors and cupboards feature in the kitchen along with the stainless steel appliances.
The Living area is featured by the large commercial sliding doors that open to let the outside in, there is also a wall of glass with glass pivot door on the inside to separate the different living area’s and maintain the free flowing feel of the rooms & views.
Large spans of steel allow the verandah to be a great size for entertaining or just putting up your deck chair to enjoy the view.

Now under the house, we had to excavate through iron stone, to a minimum of 2.6metres, to allow enough head room for the cellar, we then laid a polished concrete floor, put in purpose made wine racks to accommodate 3000 bottles, air conditioning to keep the temperature right, a wet bar and a table for 8 to sit down to dinner. This cellar was built to entertain.
Upstairs in the roof we added another dorma window in keeping with the rest of the home and put in a home office lined with polyurethane book shelves, we were able to do this because of the large steel beams used in the extension of the kitchen living area below.
Features include:
• Large sliding doors bringing outside in
• Polished concrete island bench
• Vogue contemporary style to blend in with the existing
• Pivot doors
